Working to improve the quality of life for people living with or affected by HIV

HIV Awareness Training

Brigstowe offers bespoke HIV Awareness Training to suit a variety of audiences including:

  • HIV VCSEs (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises)
  • University students
  • Local Authority and NHS departments
  • Corporations and businesses

Such clear, concise & informative training – It allowed me to have a better understanding working with clients.

Our packages offer a variety of options and tariffs, ranging from short lunch and learns to single or full day sessions, and can be delivered in person or online. We tailor the training to meet your needs, however, a typical session would include:

  • An HIV overview
  • Guidance on prevention and transmission
  • Up-to-date information on treatment
  • An opportunity to explore HIV related stigma and its impact
  • Information on testing services
  • The Equality Act and reasonable adjustments
  • Best practice when working with a patient, service user or employee living with HIV
  • Information about support available

Our training is lead by our experienced trainers and as well as a guest speaker who shares their own lived experience of living with HIV.

The training completely changed my mind set – and the learning will continue to impact my practice. I also now really understand the impact of stigma and how to challenge it.

We have delivered to a range of service providers in the health & care sector, both statutory and non-statutory, HR departments in business, as well as Avon and Somerset Police, prison staff, University of Bristol and University West of England students such as dentists, social workers mental health nurses and medical students.

The trainer provided a strong combination of lecture, interactive and group based teaching methods. It was really engaging and the information provided was comprehensive and easy to digest. We were so lucky to have been able to hear from someone with lived experience which helped put the teaching into perspective. It was great!

Brigstowe’s sibling project, The Peer Partnership, also provides a variety of trainings for organisations to support best practice regarding the design and delivery of a peer support service and beyond. For more information, please visit the website here.
