Working to improve the quality of life for people living with or affected by HIV

HIV Advice and Support

Are you living with HIV and need advice or support?

We provide advice and advocacy on a range of matters including health, housing, welfare benefits and finances.

Our approach is person centered and can focus on your immediate needs or your longer-term goals. We will support you in looking at all elements of your life, from HIV diagnosis to meaningful occupation, connection with the community and emotional wellbeing.

If you are living with or affected by HIV you can access this service as many times as you need.

If the problem you are experiencing is outside of our remit or expertise, we can also signpost you to other organisations that will be able to help you.

Testimonials

Below are some testimonies from clients who have recently received one or more of Brigstowe’s services recently.

Before (accessing Brigstowe), I was sick and tried to apply for benefits and I was refused. Since my worker’s support, I’m getting all the support I need which to me is a very good service.

Everything about your service is good, I feel comfortable asking for help, I can speak to any member staff and feel comfortable. It’s a good place.

My worker helped with everything, even with my depression. I’ve had depression for years but she tried to find different things for me to talk about and not dwell on the pain. They listened and asked you if it’s ok. They were there for my husband as well

My support worker worked a lot with me, very helpful and understanding. 10/10. I got the carpet down she was helping with, and my house never had gas or electricity, but she helped. It meant I had a working oven!

Engagement support

We also have a specific worker to help people engage with their HIV care. If you are finding it difficult to get to your hospital appointments or take your medication. Or feel that there are other areas of your life, which impact on your ability to manage your HIV care, then we can help.

I felt comfortable being able to make contact, with any question or issue. It feels like you have a distant relative.

I am more confident attending my appointments.
